How to upload songs to Spotify – Free, Quick and Easy Steps!

June 02, 2021 • 3 min read
To get your music on Spotify and other DSP (Digital Service Providers) such as Deezer, Tidal or Apple Music you must sign to a digital distributor, that's one of Magroove's services. The DSPs don’t pay artists directly, the money from royalties goes to an artist through a licensed digital distributor, the so called music aggregators. Actually, digital distribution and how to upload songs to Spotify and other DSPs has never been easier. There are a few digital distributors on the market and they all have different ways to charge for such service. Those that charge fees on royalties are frequent and they’re usually not very advantageous. The ones that charge per upload are also not very friendly to an independent artist. Even though they’ll most of the times allow 100% revenue from stores and streaming services, you’re likely to pay at least US$ 10~15 per song. Which is pretty expensive and makes it rather difficult to pay off your whole album (or even an EP) with plays and downloads. And it is especially expensive when you can upload your music and take 100% of your royalties for free. Check below our guide on how to upload songs to Spotify and other DSPs. And also some considerations for the independent musician who wants to thrive in the digital world.

Going online has never been easier

For starters, Magroove allows unlimited uploads to all major stores and streaming services with no precharges. You get 100% of your royalties generated on them and some other services alongside to assist you promoting your music.  The way we get paid is from a yearly fee on each of your releases (the whole album or EP, not per song). It’s a 5 dollar fee for each release and if you don’t reach that value we won’t take your music down or charge you. Another plus side is that this way you don’t need to give any information about your credit card - you get fully paid through Paypal. So let’s get to know how to upload songs to Spotify and other DSPs with Magroove. The process is real quick. In maybe 5 minutes you’re done with it.

How to upload songs to Spotify with Magroove

  1. Sign up with a Facebook, Google or Spotify For Artists account
  2. Filling the form:
    • Release info: Album or EP name and year of creation
    • Audio files: MP3 320kbps 16bit 44.1khz (if yours don’t match Magroove will convert them - since that's the required format by DSPs)
    • Cover art: To upload your own it’s best if it’s 3000x3000px and high-quality jpeg. But on our platform you can also create a simple cover if you’d like. Your cover must not contain links, social media info or brand logos on it as it’s Spotify’s and other DSPs' requirement.
    • Influences: cite at least 3 artists that most influenced your music. This is also important for our music discovery service.
  3. Choose your tracks and upload as many as you want. Magroove takes 2 to 3 days to feedback you and get your release online.
  4. Start collecting your royalties and keep track of your streaming and download data through Magroove’s dashboard.
  5. A website builder and some band products to sell on it will be promptly provided.
  6. You can choose as many DSPs you want to get your music on. We’re partners with all the major ones, like Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Shazam, Apple Music, Amazon MP3 and many others. You can check the full list here if you’d like.
